Boone is home to Appalachian State University, a four year public university with approximately 17,000 students. The university hosts many cultural events throughout the year including sports, music, art and theater. The Turchin Center is a great resource for involvement in the arts as well as the area's many independent galleries.

There are many things to see and do in the High Country. Skiing and snow boarding are popular sports that attract people from all over the world. There are three top notch resorts: Appalachian Ski Mountain, Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain. In addition to those resorts, Hawk's Nest Resort is a great place for snow tubing and zip lining.

The Blue Ridge Parkway is another attraction that is loved by many travelers for it's beautiful views, great hiking trails, camp grounds and picnic spots.
